Braddock Becomes First Citadel Track and Field Google Cloud Academic All-American

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Citadel two-sport cadet-athlete Charles Braddock was named a 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-American first-team selection as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA), it was announced Monday.

Braddock is the 23rd cadet-athlete in Citadel athletics history to earn the honor, but is just the first track and field/cross country runner.

"This is a wonderful accomplishment for Will and for our program. To graduate with a 4.0 GPA is truly a special accomplishment and to do it in Electrical Engineering makes it that much more amazing," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "We could not be more proud of Will and he will definitely be missed by the coaches and his teammates after being a leader both on and off the track."

Braddock represents the Southern Conference as the only male athlete to make the list and is joined by ETSU's Macy Carrier, who earned third team honors, on the women's side.

A member of The Citadel Honors College, Braddock has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA his entire career as a Bulldog while majoring in electrical engineering, earning eight gold stars as a cadet. Gold Stars are awarded to those students on the Dean's List who have made a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for work in a semester. He has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll in each of his years at The Citadel, as well as being named to the Academic All-Southern Conference team three times.

Hailing from Columbia, S.C, Braddock competed in eight track and field meets in his final campaign, racking up three top-10 finishes. He also competed in every cross country meet for the Bulldogs, recording a season-high 14th-place finish in the Will Wilson Invitational.

Braddock graduated as a first lieutenant in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, serving as the Activities Officer for First Battalion, and was awarded the 2018 McAlister Student Activities Award during The Citadel's graduation week ceremonies. He will begin a Ph.D. program at Georgia Tech this fall.
