The Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 24-31 record, 13-17 in the SoCon and will be No. 7 seed in the 2012 Southern Conference Tournament beginning next Wednesday, May 23, at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.

Bulldogs Halt Columbia 2-0 in Rain-Shortened Game
Freshman James Reeves tossed six innings of three-hit ball and improved to 3-0 on the season as The Citadel shutout Columbia University 2-0 in a seven-inning, rain-shortened game at Riley Park Saturday morning. The Bulldogs improve to 5-4 on the season and will play the Lions in a doubleheader Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m.

Austin Pritcher scattered two hits over six solid innings and Justin Mackert drove in a pair of runs as The Citadel won its third straight game, defeating Columbia University 4-1 at Riley Park Thursday evening. The Bulldogs even their overall record at 4-4, while Columbia fell in its season opener. The two team return to the field Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.

The Citadel senior outfielder Nick Orvin is one of 30 NCAA baseball student-athletes named as a candidate for the 2012 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Thursday afternoon. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Senior Nick Orvin and sophomore Tyler Griffin each recorded three hits as The Citadel pushed across 10 runs over the first four innings and held on for a 10-7 victory over Richmond Saturday afternoon in The Citadel Memorial Challenge presented by the Charleston Crab House at Riley Park. The win snaps the Bulldogs’ 13-game losing streak dating back to last season. The Citadel will face Liberty Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. to close out the season-opening tournament.

DeKerlegand, Orvin Named to Preseason All-SoCon Teams; Bulldogs Picked Eighth by Coaches and Media
Sophomore infielder Drew DeKerlegand was selected to the Southern Conference preseason all-conference first team as announced by the league office Wednesday morning. Senior outfielder Nick Orvin was chosen to the all-conference second team, as voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches. The Citadel was picked to finish eighth in both the coaches’ and media preseason polls.
