Darien Robinson Selected to CFPA Watch List
Charleston, S.C. — Citadel fullback Darien Robinson has been selected one of 39 FCS running backs named to the College Football Performance Awards watch list for the upcoming 2012 season.
Robinson, a rising junior, is coming off a 2011 campaign which saw him play in all 11 games with 10 starts and carry 136 times for 862 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the Bulldogs and ranked sixth in the Southern Conference and 48th in the nation with an average of 78.4 yards per game.
The 6-0, 210-pound native of McKeesport, Pa., averaged 6.34 yards per carry a year ago, tied for the seventh-highest figure in school history, and his career yards per attempt average of 5.90 also stands seventh. Robinson enters the 2012 season just 38 yards shy of joining The Citadel's 1,000-yard rushing club.
Robinson went over the 100-yard mark three times last season, including consecutive games of 109 vs. Appalachian State and 106 vs. Western Carolina while also reaching the plateau with 103 vs. Elon. He gained 92 yards on only nine carries vs. Georgia Southern and added 88 vs. South Carolina.
Robinson played in nine games as a reserve fullback as a freshman in 2010, gaining 100 yards on 27 carries including a season-high 56 vs. top-ranked Appalachian State.
The Citadel opens its 11-game 2012 schedule on Sept. 1 with a 6 p.m. contest vs. Charleston Southern at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The Bulldogs begin Southern Conference play the following week when Georgia Southern visits Charleston for another 6 p.m. kickoff.
