Kevin Higgins Part of South Carolina Coaches for Charity Event

The Citadel head football coach Kevin Higgins and six other coaches from the state will team up with South Carolina native and legendary former Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry at the Third Annual South Carolina Coaches for Charity event July 31 at the Embassy Suites in Columbia.

More than 300 guests are expected to join Higgins and fellow coaches Mike Ayers (Wofford), Bruce Fowler (Furman), Joe Moglia (Coastal Carolina), Buddy Pough (South Carolina State), Steve Spurrier (South Carolina) and Dabo Swinney (Clemson).

The special guest is Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, who was a teammate of DeBerry at Wofford. Richardson will be receiving the inaugural Community MVP Award.

Guests will be treated to a cocktail reception, a dinner program, entertainment, football highlight videos and each of the coaches speaking. The event also features live and silent auctions.

"This is a fun and meaningful night for us every year. The state of South Carolina is blessed to have such wonderful football coaches," said DeBerry, who serves as chairman of the Fisher DeBerry Foundation. "And to have Jerry Richardson join us is truly an honor. He has brought so much to the Carolinas and not just in terms of football. He is certainly a deserving recipient of this award."

Proceeds raised from the event are split between the charities that each coach chooses to support. In the first four years, over $70,000 has been donated to various organizations all over South Carolina.

Tables and individual tickets are now on sale for the event but are limited. The more tickets and tables purchased by fans of each of the schools, the more money that will go towards that particular coach's charity.
