The Bulldogs will be looking to get off to a fast start in their quest for the team's first winning season since 2007. A year ago The Citadel finished 4-7, however five of its losses were by 10 points or fewer. Charleston Southern is looking to snap a 12-game skid dating back to the 2010 finale.
The game marks the sixth in the series between the city rivals, all at Johnson Hagood Stadium, and The Citadel holds a 4-1 lead. The teams last met in the 2007 season opener with the Bulldogs prevailing 35-14. The only Buccaneer win was a 38-35 double overtime thriller in 2006.
The Citadel is 55-46-3 in season openers in its long history and 5-2 under Higgins, with the only two defeats coming at the hands of Texas A&M in 2006 and North Carolina in 2009. The Bulldogs have opened the season against Charleston Southern on three previous occasions (2003, 2005 and 2007) and are 3-0 in those contests.
The game can be heard throughout South Carolina on The Citadel Sports Network, with ESPN Radio 910 in Charleston serving as the flagship station. The Citadel Tailgate Show begins the radio broadcast at 4:30.
