Brandon McCladdie Receives Academic Award from FCS Athletic Directors
Cleveland – Brandon McCladdie, a junior cornerback on The Citadel football team, has been named as one of only 54 members of the FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team for the 2012 season.
McCladdie boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 as a sports management and administration major while minoring in business administration. In the fall he earned a spot on the Dean's List (3.2+ GPA) for the fourth time in seven semesters and has received Gold Stars (3.7+ GPA) on three occasions.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Star Team, a player must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be a starter or key reserve with solid athletic credentials. Each school is allowed to nominate only two players.
During the 2012 season, McCladdie served as a captain and was a member of the football team's Leadership Council. Following the 2011 campaign he was the recipient of the Ann Seignious Award for football and academic excellence, and he is also a three-time member of the Southern Conference All-Academic team.
Following the conclusion of his undergraduate career, McCladdie plans on continuing his education as an MBA candidate in The Citadel Graduate School.
On the gridiron, McCladdie started all 11 games and played an integral role in The Citadel finishing 7-4 and 5-3 in the SoCon for the program's first winning overall and league records since 2007.
He made a total of 45 tackles, including 42 solo stops, had three tackles for loss, picked off two passes, broke up four others and forced three fumbles. He tied for third in the SoCon in forced fumbles and tied for ninth in total passes defensed en route to second team all-conference honors from the SoCon media.
In his three-year career, McCladdie has played in all 33 games and started all 22 the past two seasons. He has 104 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six interceptions and 17 passes defensed.
