Citadel Football Association to Present 3rd Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest
Charleston, S.C. – The 3rd Annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest is just around the corner.
This year's event will take place on Saturday, March 9 in conjunction with The Citadel's spring football game at Johnson Hagood Stadium and is sponsored by The Citadel Football Association.
Awards will be given in six categories topped by the Most Beautiful Bulldog. Other categories include Best Costume, Best Tail Wagger, Best Smiler, Miss Congeniality and Mr. Personality. A beauty pageant featuring all of the entered dogs will take place at halftime of the spring game.
Awards will also be presented to the dog that travelled the furthest and for the oldest dog.
All registration will be done online by credit card with a fee of $40 at cfabulldogs.org beginning Wednesday, Jan. 15 and closing at 5 p.m. on March 8. No dogs may be registered at the door on Saturday. A maximum of 60 dogs will be able to compete and no more than two dogs per person or family.
All entrants must be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative, and a certificate of vaccinations is required at the stadium. Owners must also be covered by homeowner's insurance and are also responsible for their dog's own water and bowl, umbrella for shade and cooling, pad or rug for their dog to rest on and other items for their dog's comfort. A veterinarian will be present during the contest.
Entrants will check in under the home side stands at 11 a.m. on March 9, and judging will take place from 11:30-12:30 followed by a free hot dog lunch for owners. All human friends and family of dog owners are encouraged to visit the dogs in the judging area and attend the spring game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. There is no admission for both the Beautiful Bulldog Contest and the spring game.
Proceeds from the event benefit The Citadel's live mascots, General and Boo, in addition to The Citadel Football Association's Scholarship Program. For additional information, contact Assistant Athletics Director Mike Groshon at 843/953-2161.
