The Citadel Announces 2013 Football Recruits
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel head coach Kevin Higgins announced on Wednesday the addition of 23 newcomers representing seven different states to the Bulldog football family for the 2013 season.
South Carolina leads the way with 10 high school players heading to The Citadel including local wide receivers Rudder Brown and Taylor Kimball from Wando High School. Three players hail from North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania, two from Alabama and one from Florida and Oklahoma.
Fifteen recruits are being brought in on offense including quarterbacks in Cam Jackson and Jantzen Jeffrey. Jackson was a teammate of 2012 freshman linebacker James Riley at Davidson High School in Mobile, Ala.
Malik Diggs and Isaiah Pinson participated in the North Carolina/South Carolina Shrine Bowl, and Tyler Renew played in the SCISA private school Shrine Bowl. Four players were chosen for the North/South All-Star game (Brown, DeVonta Delaney, DeAndre Schoultz and Jake Smith) while Forrest Barnes will play in Pennsylvania's prestigious Big 33 game.
Twenty of the 23 players served as a captain for their high school football team and five (Brown, Kimball, Pinson, Schoultz and Hugh McFaddin) were coached by former Citadel players.
Forrest Barnes, Slot Back, 5-11, 185, Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley
Lettered three times in football and indoor track and field, four times in outdoor track and field and once in basketball at Seneca Valley High School … served as a team captain … scored 30 touchdowns his senior season and was named first team all-conference, second team all-state and a member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette North Xtra Fabulous 22 squad … chosen to play in the Big 33 all-star game … tallied 19 touchdowns and was on the all-conference first team and the Fabulous 22 unit his junior year and was honorable mention all-conference after scoring 10 times as a sophomore … finished eighth in the 100 meter dash at last spring's outdoor state track and field meet and holds school records in both the 100 (10.76) and 200 (21.79) … qualified for the state meet in each of his first three high school seasons … member of the honor roll … born March 22, 1995 in Atlanta, Ga. … son of Rufus Barnes and Stephanie Barnes-Jones … plans on majoring in sports management and administration.
