Bulldogs Swept by Appalachian State

Boone, N.C. – The Citadel tennis team was swept by Appalachian State on Thursday at the ASU Tennis Courts. The Bulldogs are now 5-14 overall and 0-7 in league play while Mountaineers improved to 10-5 and 4-1 in the Southern Conference.

In the anticipated matchup for the day, David Orces fell to Alex Markov in a battle in the No. 1 singles position. Orces jumped out on an early lead to take the first set 6-3, but his ASU rival fought back to take the second, 6-3, to draw even in the match.

In the tiebreaker, Markov scored six straight points to lead 8-3, but Orces found his rhythm and recorded five straight points to even the tiebreaker at 9-9. Markov eventually prevailed, 11-9, to complete the victory. While the head-to-head rival between Orces and Markov is now even at 1-1, Orces halted his eight-matching winning streak.

The Bulldogs will make their way back to South Carolina on take on Furman on Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
