Greenville, S.C. – The doubles tandem of David Orces and James Atkinson in the No. 1 spot, as well as Elliott Sperr and Alex Howle in the No. 3 slot, earned wins for the Bulldogs to give The Citadel tennis team the doubles point in a 6-1 loss to Furman on Tuesday. The Dogs are now 5-15 on the season and 0-8 in the SoCon, while Furman improved to 8-12 overall and 5-2 in Southern Conference play.
The Bulldogs started the day strong winning the doubles point, but The Citadel could not overcome the Paladins' singles performance, as Furman won in all six singles positions.
In the No. 1 slot, Orces and Atkinson defeated Alex Christ and Joel Cook 8-5. The Bulldog duo earned their second win of the season to improve their record to 2-5 in the top spot for The Citadel.
Sperr and Howle, in the No. 3 spot, earned their ninth win in an 8-6 victory over Luke Synn and Ryan Miller.
The Citadel will return home for their last regular season match at the Earle Tennis Center to take on their crosstown rival College of Charleston on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
