Orces Earns 12th Win in 6-1 Loss to College of Charleston
Charleston, S.C. – David Orces earned the lone point for the Bulldogs in a 6-1 loss to the College of Charleston on Tuesday. The Citadel tennis team is now 5-16 overall and 0-9 in Southern Conference play while the Cougars improved to 14-3 overall and remain undefeated in the SoCon with an 8-0 record.
Orces collected a victory at No. 1 singles over Mickael Trintignac in a dramatic three-set match. The Bulldog junior went up early in the first set 6-3, but his CofC foe worked his way back to even the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Orces outplayed Trintignac to take the tiebreaker 10-7 and with the victory claimed his 12th dual win on the season.
Elliott Sperr in the No. 6 slot also fought in a three-match battle but was unable to earn the point for The Citadel. Sperr went down in the first set to Brice Allanic 6-4 but evened out the playing field with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Sperr was unable to carry over the momentum in the tiebreaking set, losing 10-6.
The Citadel will hit the road to compete against Georgia Southern on Friday at 2 p.m., in its last match of the regular season.
