Citadel Tennis Treks to Spartanburg Methodist

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel tennis team will return to action on Saturday with a trip to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Spartanburg Methodist at noon.

After a washout last weekend due to rain, interim head coach Oliver Reynolds comments on the benefits of having the time off to recuperate.

"We have not been able to play as much as we wanted the past week due to weather but we have made up for it by doing more indoors activities and letting some of the guys grab a little rest before we get ready for Southern Conference play."

The Bulldogs will enter Saturday with a 5-1 record and are seeking their fourth shutout of the season.

Spartanburg Methodist marks the last non-conference bout before The Citadel enters three consecutive SoCon matches during the first week in March.

The Bulldogs blanked the Pioneers earlier this season with a 7-0 win at the Earle Tennis Center to bring their all-time series record to 2-0 over SMC.

Since their last meeting on Feb. 9 the Pioneers have yet to earn a win and are currently on an eight match losing streak to start the season.

SMC competes in Region 10 of the National Junior College Athletic Association which includes colleges located in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia. Markus Gattner and Matthew Plummer are the only two Pioneers to win a match as SMC has been blanked in seven different matches this season.

A recap and results will be available following the conclusion of the match.
