Orces, Bleach Earn Points for the Bulldogs in 5-2 Loss to Davidson at the Earle Tennis Center


Charleston, S.C.David Orces and Peter Bleach each earn a point for The Citadel tennis team in a 5-2 loss against Davidson at the Earle Tennis Center on Friday.

The Wildcats went up early in the match claiming the doubles point with victories in the No. 2 and 3 positions. The Bulldog duo of Orces and Oliver Dedding (4-3, 1-2) netted their first Southern Conference doubles win in the No. 1 slot over Davidson's Joe Schafer and Ethan Kallick, 8-3.

In the No. 1 position for the Dogs, Orces defeated Nicky Kunz 6-2, 6-4 and ended Kunz's two-match winning streak. The Bulldog senior earned his first singles SoCon win and improved his season record to 5-3.

Sophomore Bleach also received his first conference win of the season with a victory over Robert Lightbourn 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The South African native advances to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.

With the loss, The Citadel slips to 5-4 overall and 0-3 in the SoCon, while Davidson earns its first win on the road to improve to 8-3 and 2-0 in the conference.

The Bulldogs will take a break in Southern Conference action to host Jacksonville State on Sunday at 1 p.m., at the Earle Tennis Center.
