Bulldogs Host Appalachian State and Georgia Southern in SoCon Showdown

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis will host two conferences rivals this weekend at the Earle Tennis Center for a showdown between Appalachian State on Friday at 1 p.m., and Georgia Southern on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs (5-5, 0-3) will be looking for their first conference win of the season. The Citadel netters have lost their last four matches but have had some individual standouts.

Senior David Orces netted in his sixth dual win after going 2-0 in singles and doubles last weekend against Davidson and Jacksonville State. Sophomore Peter Bleach remains above the .500 mark at 6-4 and earned his first conference win defeating Davidson's Robert Lightbourn.

In doubles action the duo of Orces/Oliver Dedding (5-3) are on a two-match winning streak in the No. 1 position, and the tandem of Dillon Berkabile/ JC Pauli teamed up for the first time this spring and earned their first dual victory as a pair.

Appalachian State

The Mountaineers (2-7, 0-0) have struggled this season and remain winless on the road. They will be opening their conference schedule in Charleston against The Citadel and College of Charleston. App State possesses a 33-13 all-time advantage over the Bulldogs having won the last eight meetings. 

Appalachian State will enter Friday's match coming off a 4-3 loss against Northern Illinois on Wednesday.

ASU is led by junior Matt Saltsgaver in singles with a 5-4 record and in doubles by the team of Steve Karenda/Steve Lake with a mark of 2-0.

Georgia Southern

The Eagles (5-4, 1-0) hold a 22-16 all-time advantage over The Citadel as both programs first met in 1963. Earlier this fall GSU participated in The Citadel Fall Invitational and came out on top as it went 6-2 over Citadel players in singles.

Georgia Southern will enter Saturday's match coming off a 5-2 loss against Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Eagles are led by freshman Rayane Djouad who is 6-1 and sophomores Andrew Dromsky and Albert Codina Sala with records of 4-3 and 4-2, respectively. In doubles play the duo of Djouad and Marco Osorio remain at one loss on the season with a mark of 5-1.
