Bulldogs Hit Road for Makeup Match Against Coker
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel tennis team will return to the courts for a mid-week clash against Coker on Thursday at 2 p.m., at the Coker Tennis Courts.
The match was originally scheduled for Feb. 16 and postponed due to rain. The Citadel and Coker tennis programs will be meeting for the first time as two of its previous matches were both cancelled.
The Bulldogs (6-9, 0-6) snapped their eight-match losing streak last week with a win over Nebraska-Omaha in Spring Break tennis action at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
David Orces and Peter Bleach lead The Citadel as both Bulldogs have earned nine wins on the season. Sophomore Bleach is on a three-match winning streak and has more than doubled his singles win total from his freshman season.
In doubles action the duo of Orces and Oliver Dedding has earned an 8-5 dual record on the season and remain the only Bulldog pair to top the .500 mark.
The Cobras (9-3) have remained undefeated in conference play at 5-0. Having success at home with a 4-1 record, Coker is coming off a 7-2 win over Queens University of Charlotte on Mar. 17.
The team is led by collection of freshmen. Tom Sizeland is 10-2 overall, while Andre Staab and William Marrafao hold a 9-3 record on the season. Martin Moncayo has excelled in the No. 1 slot for the Cobras with an 8-3 overall record and stands at 5-0 in league play. Junior James Corfield is currently on a seven-match willing streak in the No. 5 position to hold a 9-2 overall record and 5-0 conference record.
As a member of Conference Carolinas, Coker is a Division II program that was predicted to finish fifth in the CCA preseason poll among schools located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Currently Coker clings to the top of the conference standings with Mount Olive.
