Bulldog Rifle Downed By No. 1 TCU

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Rifle team fought hard, but fell short on Saturday as the defending national champions Texas Christian University came away with a victory against the men (4,693-4,372) and the women (4,693-4,176).

Bulldog shooters Winston Dorian and Stephen Kinn led the men firing air rifle scores of 575 and 568, while senior Alison Hayes and sophomore Julia McCullohs led the women tallying air rifle scores of 562 and 559 in the loss.

The Horned Frogs shooters took the first five spots in the air rifle with Sarah Scherer and Catherine Green taking first and second place. Scherer fired a total of 596 while her teammate, Green, trailed right behind with a 594. TCU does not sponsor a men's rifle team.

The Bulldog Rifle team will head into the spring rifle season with a ton of great experience under their belt, having competed against the last two NCAA National Championship teams. After a two month break, the Bulldogs will continue their 2010-11 campaign by hosting Army and N.C. State in a two-day NCAA battle on Jan. 15-16, 2011 at The Citadel Marksmanship Center, followed by the SEARC 5 competition in Milledgeville, Ga. on January 22. The Bulldogs are undefeated in the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference this season with a perfect 20-0 record.
