McCullohs, Dorian Lead Bulldogs in First Open NCAA Match of 2011
Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Rifle team didn’t produce the result they were looking for in their first match of the winter schedule today against NC State and Army held at The Citadel Marksmanship Center.
Sophomore leader Julia McCullohs fired an aggregate score of 1082 (511 in smallbore and 571 in air rifle) to lead all Bulldog women, while Winston Dorian led the men with a total score of 1125 (559 in smallbore and 566 in air rifle). Senior Stephen Kinn led the Bulldogs in air rifle carding a 569, while senior captain Alison Hayes fired a 523 in smallbore.
Army took the team title with a total score of 4625 followed by NC State firing a team score of 4488. This marks the first time in four tries this season that the Wolfpack have been able to top The Citadel, who finished third with a team score of 4418.
Army’s Kelly Buck led all air rifle scorers shooting an impressive 593 total in air rifle, while teammate William Mengen led all smallbore shooters with 582.
This match was a tune-up for next weekend’s SEARC conference match in Milledgeville, Ga. where The Citadel rifle team will look to remain undefeated in conference play.
