Bulldog Rifle tops UAB in Final NCAA Dual of Season

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Rifle team topped the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Friday in an open NCAA air rifle dual at The Citadel Marksmanship Center. The win marks the Bulldogs fourth in consecutive seasons against the Blazers.

The Bulldog men came away with the trophy, firing the day’s top team score of 2275. The female shooters trailed right behind the men shooting a 2222, while the Blazers of UAB finished last with a team total of 2200.

Sophomores Winston Dorian and Julia McCullohs continued to impress, leading their respective teams in each of the last five matches in air rifle. Dorian fired a 578, marking the fourth straight match where he posted scores in the mid 70’s or above. McCulloh’s carded a 569 on Friday, three points above her air rifle season average of 566 per match.

Sophomore Terri Craig and senior captain Alison Hayes also shot impressive scores of 564 and 553 for the women, while freshman shooter Franklin Wright continues to improve, carding his personal best this season with a 565.

The Bulldogs will look to continue their winning ways next weekend when they host the NCAA air rifle sectionals and fight to remain undefeated and atop the conference standings at SEARC 6 on Saturday.
