Bulldog Rifle takes Second Place in SEARC 6 and Third at NCAA Sectionals

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Rifle team finished an eventful weekend at The Marksmanship Center by placing second in their conference air rifle match and third in the NCAA sectional final matches in air rifle and smallbore.

The Bulldogs fell just seven points short to NC State University for the first time in their six meetings this season on Saturday in the sixth conference match of the year and the Bulldogs first loss in conference play.

Winston Dorian and Julia McCullohs lead all Bulldog shooters in the conference match, firing air rifle scores of 576 and 563 to continue their impressive sophomore seasons. Senior Stephen Kinn led the Bulldogs in Sunday’s NCAA smallbore match carding a 553 to help his team place third behind Columbus State University and NC State.

The conference loss is the first on the season for The Citadel Rifle team. Next Saturday’s SEARC Championship competition in Anniston, Ala. will pin the Bulldogs and the Wolfpack against each other for the seventh time this season, with the conference championship on the line. The Bulldogs are looking to bring the trophy back to Charleston for the first time since the 2000-01 season.
