Bulldog Rifle Set to Host SEARC 2 and NCAA Competition This Weekend

Charleston, S.C. – The Daniel K. Inouye Marksmanship will be busy this weekend as The Citadel Rifle team will host matches that will span from Friday, Oct. 7 to Sunday, Oct. 9. The Bulldogs will compete in their second conference match and face Texas Christian, Columbus State and Jacksonville State in their first NCAA match of the season.

The Bulldogs captured second place last week in thrilling fashion at SEARC 1, as they played North Georgia College and State University to a 2,232-point draw at the end of the competition, forcing a tie-break shootout that the Bulldogs would win.

Freshman William Wutzer was the biggest surprise in the match, outshooting all Bulldogs with an air rifle mark of 562 in his first collegiate competition. Juniors Terri Craig and Julia McCullohs will look to lead the women's team as they fired a 558 and 542, respectively, in the opener.

The Citadel is still looking to get together their solid four scorers with the loss of key shooters Winston Dorian, Stephen Kinn, Thomas Kersey and captains Alison Hayes and Joseph Trippi.

The match will kick-off on Friday evening at 5 p.m. when the teams will compete in smallbore competition for the NCAA. The SEARC and NCAA Air Rifle matches will be held throughout the day on Saturday before all programs finish up the smallbore rifle on Sunday afternoon.

The ten conference teams:  Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, Clemson, Georgia Military, Georgia Tech, Mercer, N.C. State, North Georgia College and State University, The Citadel and Wofford will all be competing in this weekend's match.
