McCullohs and Jackson Lead the Bulldogs to Second Place Finish in SEARC 2
Charleston, S.C. – The Bulldogs captured their second consecutive second place finish in conference play on Saturday at the Daniel K. Inouye Marksmanship Center. The Bulldogs also hosted NCAA smallbore and air rifle matches against Columbus State, Jacksonville State and Texas Christian.
Junior captain Julia McCullohs led all Bulldog shooters, firing an air rifle score of 569 in the second Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season. Behind McCullohs was freshman marksman Robert Jackson, who fired a 568 in only his second collegiate competition, and men's captain Kristofer Small who recorded a 567 to take third among his teammates.
Last week's team leader, freshman William Wutzer, recorded an air rifle score of 555, while teammates Terri Craig (562), Ashten Byrne (558), Matthew Bernard (557), Julia O'Meara (553) and Joshua Anacay (553) also competed for the Bulldogs.
N.C. State took the team crown in the SEARC match, recording an overall score of 2,294. Behind the Wolfpack was The Citadel (2,247), North Georgia College and State University (2,233) and Wofford (2,165).
Texas Christian University captured the team crown in the open NCAA match which included both air rifle and smallbore with a combined score of 4,663. Behind the Horned Frogs was Jacksonville State (4,610), Columbus State (4,546), N.C. State (4,525), The Citadel (4,401), and NGCSU (4,398).
TCU's Sarah Scherer took first place in both the smallbore and air rifle, recording individual scores of 582 and 596, respectively.
The Bulldogs have a week off before jumping back into competition against University of Alabama-Birmingham on Oct. 22 in an open NCAA match held at the Daniel K. Inouye Marksmanship Center.
