The Citadel Rifle Team Falls to UAB in NCAA Open Match
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel Rifle team was downed by University of Alabama-Birmingham, 2235-2222, on Saturday at the Daniel K. Inouye Marksmanship Center. The loss is the first that the Bulldogs have suffered to the Blazers in four years.
Junior shooter Terri Craig fired a season-best and team-leading 569 in the air rifle to place her second behind UAB's Sirlinda Gee, who captured first place, shooting an impressive 584.
Behind Craig for the Bulldogs was freshman shooter Robert Jackson, who recorded a 564 in just his third match of his collegiate career, and captains Kristofer Small (559) and Julia McCullohs (558) who finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Freshman walk-on Richard Hunton stepped up for the Bulldogs, recording a personal-best score of 557 to round out the top four Citadel shooters.
Also competing for The Citadel was William Wutzer (554, 8th place), Julia O'Meara (549, 9th place), Matthew Bernard (545, 10th place), Nathan Moy (535, 14th place), Hunter Parrish (534, 15th place), Joshua Anacay (531, 16th place), Ashten Byrne (530, 17th place), Margaret LaRiviere (506, 19th place), and Teddi Haliscak (497, 20th place).
The Bulldogs will return to Southeastern Air Rifle Conference action next weekend as they head to Milledgeville, Ga., to battle in their third SEARC match of the season.
