Jackson, Wutzer Fire Personal Bests as Bulldogs Fall to No. 5 Alaska, 4644-4401
Charleston, S.C. – The young Citadel marksmen continued to improve in a well fought competition against No. 5 University of Alaska-Fairbanks on Tuesday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center, but it was the Nanooks who came out on top, 4644-4401.
Freshmen Robert Jackson and William Wutzer led all Bulldog air rifle shooters, firing personal-bests of 576 and 572, respectively. The tandem has now emerged as the teams' leading marksmen in each of the seven matches this season.

Junior captain Julia McCullohs had another impressive outing, as she finished just one point behind teammate Wutzer, with a 571. Also shooting air rifle for the Bulldogs on Tuesday was senior captain Kristofer Small (561), Nathaniel Moy (555-personal best), Richard Hunton III (549), Terri Craig (540), Ashten Byrne (516) and Teddi Haliscak (487).
In small bore action, Moy tied his personal-best score of 550 to lead The Citadel. The freshman Cadet has now captured first place among his teammates in two of the three small bore events this season. Also firing small bore for The Citadel was Jackson (537), Wutzer (532), McCullohs (523), Hunton (519), Craig (517), Small (514), Byrne (461), and Margaret LaRiviere (460).
"We shot a strong match in a losing effort to a top team," said Coach William Smith. "Everyone is on a roll and things are looking good for the start of conference play this Saturday."
