Dahlonega, Ga. – Richard Hunton took fourth place overall and tops among his teammates, carding a 579 at the first Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season this weekend to help lead the Bulldogs to a second place finish and combined air rifle score of 2,296.
Hunton's mark of 579 is a career-best in air rifle for the sophomore who has now led the Bulldog marksmen in both matches this season. The Citadel trio of Franklin Wright (573), Robert Jackson (572) and William Wutzer (572) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth place, respectively, to close out the team's top four spots.
Freshman Thor Wright collected his first varsity letter of the season in air rifle with a mark of 567. A varsity letter is achieved when a marksmen cards an air rifle or smallbore score of 560 or above.
The Bulldogs finished just 21 points behind 2012 conference champion NC State.
Terri Craig led the women's team for the second consecutive week, carding an air rifle score of 567 to take 12th place overall on Saturday. Captain Julia McCullohs took second on the women's side with a score of 564.
The Bulldogs closed out the weekend on Sunday in NCAA smallbore action as Jackson posted his first career varsity letter in smallbore with a mark of 563 to lead all Cadets and nab fourth place overall.
The men's smallbore team took second place to the Wolfpack, collecting a score of 2,189 and aggregate score of 4,485 for the weekend.
The Citadel will host tough competition next week as they welcome 2012 NCAA Champion and No. 1-ranked TCU, No. 7 Jacksonville State and No. 16 Columbus State to the Inouye Marksmanship Center on Oct. 6.
