Bulldog Rifle Prepared to Host SEARC Championship

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team is set to host the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference Championship match this weekend at the Inouye Marksmanship Center. The Bulldogs currently sit in second place in the conference behind 14th-ranked NC State.

The Bulldogs finished last week's conference competition in second place with 2,293 points behind the Wolfpack who posted a score of 2,336. The second place finish is the Bulldogs' fifth this season and leaves them comfortably ahead of North Georgia for second place in the standings.

Freshman Thor Wright's air rifle score of 578 placed him sixth overall in air rifle for the weekend and marked the first time in his young career that he has led all Citadel shooters.

Robert Jackson (573), Richard Hunton (572), Julia McCullohs (570) and William Wutzer (568) rounded out the top five for The Citadel in air rifle.

"The championship brings about mixed emotions since the seniors are shooting their last match, while the knobs are now seasoned shooters," said Coach William C. Smith. "This has been a season of growth in scores and experience for the team. We pushed ourselves to higher scores and pushed our top rival, NC State, to a new level as well."
