Bulldog Grapplers Close Out Annual Blue/White Wrestle-Offs
Charleston, S.C. – The White team, led by first-year assistant coach Tucker Lane, edged out associate head coach Jeff Ragan's Blue team by a score of 27-14 on Saturday morning at McAlister Field House in the team's annual Blue/White wrestle-off competition.
"It was great to see the competition against each other in a dual meet setting and it was interesting to see how everything played out with some young guys stepping up." said head coach Rob Hjerling. "I am looking forward to getting the season started next week at The Citadel Open and the Hokie Open."
Blue 27, White 14
(125): Jordan Wigger (White) and Steven Cox kicked off the day's events in the semi-finals of the 125-pound class. Wigger, the freshman from Summerville, S.C., recorded a quick pin at 2:21 earning him a spot in the finals against Drew Ferguson.
(141): Undrakhbayar Khishignyam (Blue) recorded the first period pin on Kyle Casaletto at 1:15.
(Third Place at 125): Cox (White) took a 5-2 decision over freshman Zach Young in a bout that would determine third place at the 125-pound weight class.
(Final at 125): Wigger (White) topped Ferguson in a 6-3 decision to win the 125-pound weight class.
(Exhibition at 133): Aaron Hansen (Blue) shutout Cox, who was wrestling in his third match of the day, by a 15-0 tech fall.
(True Second Place at 141): Casaletto (Blue) dominated Nate Harper by a score of 16-4 in the day's final match.
The Bulldogs will kick off their 2012-13 campaign next weekend when they host The Citadel Open on Saturday at McAlister Field House. Matches are slated to begin at 9 a.m. On Sunday, the Bulldog starters will head to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in the Hokie Open.
