Bulldog Grapplers Trek to Penn State to Compete in the Nittany Lion Open
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team is set to compete in one of the top wrestling opens on the East coast on Sunday when it heads into action at the 2012 Nittany Lion Open, hosted by the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.
The Bulldogs will compete against approximately 500 wrestlers from over 30 teams, 14 of which are ranked in the NCAA Top 25. Matches are slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University.
Teams set to send wrestlers into action at the event include second-ranked and two-time defending national champion Penn State, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 8 Cornell, No. 11 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Central Michigan, No. 14 Michigan, No. 16 Maryland, No. 17 Virginia, No. 18 Pittsburgh, No. 20 Edinboro, No. 21 Lehigh, No. 23 Kent State, No. 24 Old Dominion and No. 25 Bloomsburg.
The Bulldogs are coming off a third place finish at the Navy Classic on Nov. 17. Heavyweight Odie Delaney and 141-pounder Ugi Khishignyam dominated their respective weight classes to earn individual crowns, while five other Bulldogs notched top-six performances.
Delaney currently holds a career record of 88-35 with 47 pins and will look to eclipse the 100-win and 50-pin marks during his final season as a Bulldog.
