Marshall Haas Tabbed as SoCon Wrestler of the Week
Spartanburg, S.C. – Bulldog 197-pounder Marshall Haas earned his first career wrestler of the week award from the Southern Conference office for his performance in The Citadel's win over Appalachian State last Friday.
With the Dogs down 10-7 halfway through the match, Haas swung the momentum back to his team with a huge first period pin at the 2:23 mark over Appalachian State's Paul Weiss. The six point fall sparked a string of four consecutive wins to put the match out of reach.
The loss snapped the Mountaineers' 11-match SoCon winning streak and moved the Bulldogs to the top of the league standings.
The weekly award is the fifth for a Bulldog wrestler this season. Heavyweight Odie Delaney took the award on Nov. 21 and 141-pounder Ugi Khishignyam won it three straight times from Dec. 12 to Jan. 3.
The Citadel (3-3, 2-0 SoCon) returns to action tonight when it hosts Campbell for a SoCon bout at 7 p.m. in McAlister Field House.
