The Citadel soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year on the strength of a team grade point average of 3.5 during the fall and 3.54 in the spring.

Junior midfielders Mariana Garcia and Vanessa Aponte were voted to the 2012 All-SoCon first and second teams, respectively, by the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Junior forward Jannel Johnson was selected to the all-freshman team.

Shanna Couch Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Former Citadel soccer cadet-student-athlete Shanna Couch has been honored with an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following her graduation this past spring. Couch, who is currently pursuing her doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Kansas Medical Center, was one of just 29 female student-athletes nationally, and the first in Citadel history, to receive the prestigious award.

Seven Bulldog Soccer Players Achieve Perfect GPAs for Spring Semester
The Citadel soccer team netted 26 goals on the field during the 2011 season but in the spring semester the Bulldogs achieved an impressive goal in the classroom as seven players posted perfect 4.0 GPAs and 16 recorded GPAs of 3.0 or higher. As a team, the Bulldogs posted a cumulative GPA of 3.54, tops among all athletic programs for the spring.
