The Citadel Set to Kick Off SoCon Action Hosting Furman, Wofford

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel soccer team will look to carry the momentum from a thrilling 3-2 come from behind win over Charleston Southern on Monday into conference play as the Bulldogs open up the Southern Conference slate with a pair of games this weekend.

The Citadel will host Furman on Washington Light Infantry Field on Friday at 4 p.m., before welcoming Wofford on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Citadel vs. Furman – Friday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.

All-time vs. Paladins: 1-11 in regular season, 1-0 in conference tournament

Last Meeting: Oct. 23, 2011, 2-1, Paladins

The Bulldogs and Paladins have played each other tough the past few seasons as the previous four meetings have been decided by just one goal. Furman took the most recent contest last season in Greenville, 2-1, but the Bulldogs topped the Paladins twice in 2010, winning in a 2-1 double-overtime thriller in the first round of the 2010 SoCon tournament.

The last time these two teams met Nicole Levermann posted two first half goals as the Bulldogs closed out the first 45 minutes with a 2-1 lead. The Terriers came out in the second frame and notched the equalizer. Both defenses played strong to close out the double-overtime game with a 2-2 draw.

Monday's victory shook up The Citadel's record books as Mariana Garcia's goal was her fifth of the season and 22nd of her career, passing Amy Loughran to move into second all-time and leave her just six shy of the school record. The Bogota, Colombia, native's two points place her in a tie for second in Citadel history with 49.

Vanessa Aponte's four shots give her 157 for her career leaving her just nine shy of the school record, while her two shots on goal move her into sole possession of third place all time with 69.

Levermann posted her 10th career goal and her third gamewinner, moving her into a tie for third place all-time, while Mesa's assist was her third of the season and fourth of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth most in Citadel history

Garcia is currently second in the conference in goals and fifth among active conference player in career shots with 141. Aponte is third among active players in the SoCon with 157 career shots, while Anastasia Mesa is tied for second in the conference this season with three assists.
