Bulldogs Hit the Road for SoCon Matches Against Elon, UNC Greensboro

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team will trek to North Carolina for two tough conference road tests as the Bulldogs are set to face Elon on Friday at 7 p.m., before closing out the weekend on Sunday at 2 p.m. at UNC Greensboro.

The Citadel at Elon – Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.

All-time vs. Phoenix: 1-8
First Meeting: Sept. 27, 2003, 3-0, Phoenix
Last Meeting: Oct. 9, 2011, 2-1, Phoenix

A season ago, the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead but couldn't hold on as Elon knocked in two second half goals to beat the Bulldogs 2-1. Garcia scored her sixth goal of the 2011 season against the Phoenix last season. The Bogota, Columbia, native has already posted six goals in 2012 in five fewer games.

The Citadel at UNC Greensboro – Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.

All-time vs. Spartans: 0-11
First Meeting: Oct. 28, 2001, 10-0, Spartans
Last Meeting: Oct. 7, 2011, 4-2, Spartans

A red card for a handball on a shot on goal in the eighth minute left the Bulldogs at a "man down" disadvantage for the final 82 minutes of the game as The Citadel fell just short of topping UNC Greensboro 4-2. The two teams entered the half even at two goals apiece. The Citadel is looking for their first win in program history against UNC Greensboro.

For the Record…

Junior captain Vanessa Aponte's school-record breaking 160th shot was fittingly the gamewinner for the Bulldogs as they topped Wofford 3-1 last Sunday on WLI Field. The Orlando, Fla., native also dished an assist which was the ninth of her career, moving her into a tie for first place all-time.

Garcia, who recorded her 23rd career goal on Sunday, is just five shy of tying the school record. She also tops the school's charts with 10 career gamewinners and is just eight points shy of passing Kelly Pesterfield for most points all-time. Garcia is also 47th in the country in goals per game with .667, and 66th with six goals.

Goalkeeper Sarah Katchen continues to improve in net as the junior has collected 49 saves on the season, placing her 67th in the NCAA while recording a goals against average of 2.49 through eight games.
