Bulldogs Slated for Final Two Home Games Against Samford, Chattanooga

Charleston, S.C. – The Bulldog soccer team will kick off Parent's Weekend at The Citadel with a 4 p.m. match on Friday against defending Southern Conference champion Samford before hosting Chattanooga on Sunday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day on Washington Light Infantry Field.

With a conference record of 2-3-1, the Bulldogs are currently tied for seventh place with Georgia Southern, Western Carolina and College of Charleston, while Samford sits atop the standings with a SoCon mark of 4-0-2.

The Citadel vs. Chattanooga – Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.

Last Meeting: Sept. 30, 2011, 2-1, Bulldogs

Mariana Garcia netted one goal in each half last season en route to the Bulldogs' second consecutive conference win. It took only nine minutes for the Bulldogs to net the first score of the game as Garcia tapped in a goal at the near post that was passed off the foot of Vanessa Aponte. The Bulldogs have won the previous three contests against Chattanooga, outscoring the Mocs 5-1 in those matches.

Bulldogs to Honor Goalkeeper Cassie Palmacci

A stark difference from last season's graduating class of eight seniors, the Bulldogs will only graduate one player at the end of the 2012 season, goalie Cassie Palmacci.

Cassie Palmacci has appeared in six games during her three seasons as a Bulldog. In three of those appearances Palmacci did not allow a single goal to help lead the Bulldogs to two wins and a draw. The senior has recorded 339 minutes between the posts, racking up 13 saves and accumulating a career goals against average of 2.39. Palmacci has shown leadership on and off the field at The Citadel as she was named as one of the team captains for the 2012 season and has held ranks of Squad Sergeant and Squad Corporal in the Corps.

For the Record…

Garcia is currently tied for 19th in the NCAA and second in the conference behind NCAA goals leader Stephanie DeVita from Furman who has 15.

The Bogota, Colombia, native is now just one goal shy of tying the school record for career goals and six shots on goal short of breaking The Citadel's program record. With her two scores against Georgia Southern last Sunday she assured her second season of 10 or more goals.

Anastasia Mesa is tied for 100th in the NCAA and tied for first in the conference with five assists. The five assists on the season by Mesa is tied for a program record with teammate Vanessa Aponte who accomplished the feat in 2010.

Goalkeeper Sarah Katchen is currently tied for 43rd in the country and second in the conference with 73 saves. Katchen, who has recorded 1,031:06 minutes in goal in 2012, holds a goals against average of 2.18.
