Bulldog Soccer Tops Charleston Southern, Ties Coker in Spring Contests
Charleston, S.C. – Mariana Garcia notched a goal in each of Sunday's two spring matches to help lead The Citadel soccer team to a 2-1 win over Charleston Southern before playing to a 1-1 draw against Coker on Johnson Hagood Field.
In the opening 45-minute period of the round robin, the Bulldogs' Jillian Meyer, along with Garcia, netted a goal apiece before allowing an own goal to put the Buccaneers on the board.
In the second frame, Ana Mesa delivered a pass to Garcia, who was able to knock it past the Coker goalkeeper for her second score of the day.
Garcia, who is heading into her final season as a Bulldog, became The Citadel's all-time goals leader last season when she posted 14 goals to collect a career total of 31.
Sarah Katchen, who served over 1,300 minutes in net last season, played the entire 90 minutes.
The Bulldogs improved their spring record to 2-1-1 and will close out the spring campaign on the road next weekend against UNC Asheville and Montreat.
