Charleston, S.C. — The Citadel's Amir Khaledi announced the addition of five cadet-student-athletes who will join the Bulldogs' volleyball program for the 2012 season.

The additions include Carson Gosnell (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), Megan Heyer (Richmond, Va.), Rachael Keefer (Fleming Island, Fla.), Bailey Kernodle (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Mikaela Tracy (Marietta, Ga.).

"We welcome these five young ladies and their families to The Citadel," said Khaledi. "I am very excited they chose to become a member of our program. I have focused on top caliber players who could come in and help the program immediately. We as a coaching staff feel very confident that we reached our goals with this recruiting class."

"We looked at the vital positions and we picked our players," added Khaledi. "We needed to add more speed to our team and these individuals possess a great deal of speed and talent. They are adding depth to the roster as well as raise the level of competition in practice and match situations. More important they are great student-athletes who will represent The Citadel with a great deal of class."

Carson Gosnell • Outside Hitter/Right Side • Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
(Wando, HS; MVP Volleyball Club)

Amir Khaledi on Gosnell: "Carson is one of the most talented outside hitters in this region. I have watched her develop over the last couple of years and have been very impressed with her talent level. She is solid all-around and was coached by one of the elite high school coaches in the state, Alexis Glover. I am confident that Carson will bring a great wealth of knowledge from her high school program to The Citadel program."

Megan Heyer • Middle Hitter • Richmond, Va.
(Godwin HS; U-Turn Volleyball Club)

Named all-conference and all-tournament in 2010 and 2011 … received all-district and all-region accolades in 2011 … three-year starter for her Godwin HS team, earning MVP honors in 2011 … member of the all-academic team in her district and region in 2010 and 2011 … earned a spot on the Open Level U-Turn Volleyball Club in 2010, 2011 and 2012, coached by Dan Gresham, who is regarded as one of the premier club coaches in the nation.

Amir Khaledi on Heyer: "Megan is a very versatile player who has played both middle hitter and right side at both a high school and club level. She is tall and very athletic and will help us both offensively and defensively. She blocks very well and complements her blocking with hard hits. Megan has great ball control in her hits and can surprise opponents with a variety of shots. Her quickness and depth will be a welcome addition to the team in the fall."

Rachel Keefer • Setter • Fleming Island, Fla.
(Orange Park HS; Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Club)

Earned St. Johns Rivers all-conference honors in 2009, 2010 and 2011 … 2011 Co-MVP and player of the year … 2011 Wendy's High School Heisman recipient … 2011 FACA All-Star member … named all-state on three occasions (2009, 2010, 2011) … helped her 2011 club team capture their regional and participate in the National Tournament in Atlanta … integral in her 2012 club team placing third overall in the Big South Qualifier.

Amir Khaledi on Keefer: "I have known Rachel since her sophomore year and was happy to know that she was still available when I was looking for a good setter for our program. She is a very hard working and disciplined athlete who will add more depth for our program."

Bailey Kernodle • Middle Hitter • Fort Mill, S.C.

Bailey led her Nation Ford HS team to the 2010 3A State Championship … recognized as an all-region and all-state player in 2010 and 2011 … holds the school and region record in hitting percentage and kills … a three-year starter for Nation Ford HS at the middle hitter position … played with both the Charlotte Juniors (2010-11) and Carolina Union (2011-12) clubs over the last two seasons.

Amir Khaledi on Kernodle: "Bailey's speed and jumping ability is the main reason I noticed her in the state tournament and the Atlanta Showcase. Even though she is not very tall for the middle hitter position, her great leaping ability and ball control has made her a dominate player at the high school and club level. I expect her to definitely push players in the fall for a starting position."
