Charleston, S.C. –
The Citadel volleyball team completed its first week of practice for the 2012 season on Friday.

The Bulldogs, comprised of five upperclassmen, five sophomores and five freshmen, focused primarily on individual blocking, digging, passing and service game drills.

"We are working all hours of the day on basics to get better for our first match in two weeks," said senior Emily Dalton. "We have seen a lot of improvement in our freshmen, which is going to be helpful this season. it has been different in adjusting to the new setters, but they are communicating well with the hitters to make the transition easier."

Head Coach Amir Khaledi and his staff placed a great deal of emphasis on working with freshmen setters Rachel Keefer and Mikaela Tracy to get them acclimated to the offensive system.

"We are excited about the addition of our two new setters," said Khaledi. "They both are working very hard, making progress in learning the system and have been successful in the process."

"The overall outlook so far has been very positive," added Khaledi. "Our upperclassmen have stayed in shape during the summer and it shows. The combination of experienced upperclassmen and talented freshmen has made for a very exciting preseason. There is no doubt freshmen will see plenty of playing time in the upcoming season."

The Citadel begins its 2012 season on August 24 when it heads to Las Vegas to participate in the UNLV Tournament. The two-day event begins when the Dogs square off with Northern Arizona before facing host UNLV and Cal State-Bakersfield for the first time in program history.

Citadel fans will have the opportunity to preview the 2012 team when the Bulldogs host the traditional Blue-White scrimmage on Aug. 28.
