Bulldog Spikers Head to Georgia Southern, Davidson for SoCon Matches

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team begins its first full weekend of Southern Conference action on the road when the team heads to Georgia Southern and Davidson. The Cadets open play with the Eagles on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and follow with a Saturday match against Davidson at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs have witnessed resurgence in the play of seniors Rachael Farrell and Jessica Maxwell of late. Over the last five matches the two have combined for 85 kills, or 41.2% of the teams total kills production. Farrell is averaging 2.61 kills per set, highest on the team, while Maxwell has a hitting percentage of .326 since a meeting with Wofford on Sept. 15. The two have also managed to hone their defensive skills with Farrell posting 52 digs and Maxwell recording 19 total blocks (17 assisted) in that span.

In action on Tuesday, Maxwell finished with eight kills and teammate Lauren Hurt added seven, but it was a well-balanced College of Charleston lineup that emerged with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 win over The Citadel.

Maxwell converted eight kills in 13 total attacks to finish with a .615 attack percentage. She also made her presence felt for the Bulldogs defensively with two solo blocks. Meanwhile, Hurt had seven kills (.278 attack percentage) and assisted on four front row blocks. Teammate Emily Dalton added eight digs, while Mikaela Tracy was active on both the back row (seven digs) and offensively (20 assists).

Kym Coley and Jamie DeRatt each recorded 10 kills, and the Eagles trailed just once in the match in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-15) SoCon volleyball victory over Furman on Sept. 22 in Alley Gymnasium.

Coley added three blocks and a pair of digs for the Eagles and DeRatt had 10 digs. Moriah Bellissimo posted nine kills and seven digs and Meredith Paskert was credited with eight kills and six digs.

Kate Van Dyke had 37 assists for the efficient offense as the Eagles hit .301 as a team with 46 kills and just 12 errors.

Davidson (5-7 Overall/1-1 SoCon)

The Wildcat volleyball split their opening weekend of SoCon play when they rebounded from a tough loss at Furman with a dominant 3-0 victory over Wofford on Saturday, Sept. 22. The 'Cats took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-17. 
Caroline Brown led Davidson as she finished with a team-high 11 kills and added 12 digs.  Molly Crenshaw led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while Anastasia Owen recorded six. Ariel Ley had 31 assists, four kills and three digs, and Megan Chamberlin led the team in serving with seven aces and a hitting percentage of .571. Tindall Sewell also hit .500 on the evening and finished with seven kills and two block assists.
The 'Cats hit an impressive .417 as a team, while the Terriers hit .233. Amanda Liguori had nine kills for Wofford, while Reagan Stiles finished with nine digs.
