Dogs Spikers Host Charleston Southern, Savannah State in Tri-Match

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday when the Dogs host a tri-match that includes meetings with Charleston Southern and Savannah State.

The Bulldogs open action at 2 p.m. against CSU and follow with a 6 p.m. meeting against Savannah State. At approximately 4 p.m. Savannah State will square off against Charleston Southern. All games will take place at McAlister Field House.

The Citadel (2-18) has gone head-to-head with intracity rival Charleston Southern on one occasion this season, prevailing in a three-set match on Sept. 15. In that meeting, The Bulldogs earned a sweep behind solid performances by Amanda Rudnik (10 kills, 13 digs) and Rachael Farrell (9 kills, 11 digs).

Over the course of the weekend The Citadel dropped a pair of Southern Conference matches to in-state rivals Wofford and Furman.

On Saturday evening, the Paladins, behind double-digit kill outings by Chandler Ambrester, Christina Dorismond and Natalie Braun completed a sweep of The Citadel volleyball team by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-10.

The Dogs were led by offensively by the duo of Amanda Rudnik (seven kills) and Bailey Kernodle (five kills). Meanwhile, Erin Bucherl anchored a back row with 13 digs.

Savannah State (0-21 Overall)

The Savannah State Lady Tigers volleyball squad fell, 0-3, to Stetson University in a non-conference matchup in DeLand, Florida, Saturday afternoon.

SSU freshman Bianca Brochu led the team with six kills, while Ashlee Butler led in digs with nine. Kaneisha Hamilton added eight digs.

Trailing 2-0 into the third set, SSU fell behind as the Lady Hatters jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Brochu ended the run with a kill, but an SSU error and a Stetson kill prompted a Savannah State timeout, moments later.

The Lady Tigers continued to fight as Brochu, Dilworth, Keandra Lewis and Bryana Gadis all recorded kills, but the Lady Hatters overpowered SSU taking the third set 25-10, winning the match 3-0.
 
Charleston Southern (8-12 Overall)

Charleston Southern head coach Al Givens won his 400th career match on Friday night as CSU rallied in the fifth set to beat Coastal Carolina, 3-2 (24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12).

CSU came back from an 11-7 deficit in the final set to win 15-12 and improve to 4-0 in five-set matches this season.

Givens is in his first season at the helm of the Lady Bucs' volleyball program, bringing with him 34 years of coaching experience over all levels. At the Division I level, Givens spent time at Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Weber State, where he combined for 378 career wins.

Meredith Parrott led CSU with 14 kills, while Kayla Klinger added 13 and Sydney Tracy 11. Parrott had a match-high 8 blocks in the win. CSU has 13 blocks as a team.
