Bulldog Volleyball Hosts Georgia Southern, Davidson
Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team hosts its final two matches of October this weekend when Southern Conference South Division rivals Georgia Southern and Davidson pay a visit to McAlister Field House.
The Bulldogs open with a 6 p.m. match against Georgia Southern on Saturday and follow that with a 3 p.m. meeting with Davidson on Sunday.
On Tuesday evening, earned its third victory at McAlister Field House this season when it completed a 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 sweep of North Carolina A&T on Tuesday evening.
The Citadel, participating in its fifth annual "Dig Pink" match, was led by senior Rachael Farrell who finished with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. Farrell was joined by Ise d'Angelo (eight kills) and Bailey Kernodle (six kills) as the Dogs notched 43 kills and a .276 hitting percentage. Erin Bucherl's 17 digs anchored the back row defensive efforts, while three assisted blocks by teammate Lauren Hurt provided a solid front row. Freshman Mikaela Tracy dished out 34 assists as The Citadel moves to 5-22 overall.
N.C. A&T (1-26) had five players amass a kill, led by Andrea Evans, who finished with a team-high nine. Teammate TeBorah Hawkins tacked on eight as the Aggies struggled to find any offensive rhythm en route to 35 kills and a .111 hitting percentage. Defensively, Ashley Johnson tallied 24 digs, while Jeana Daniels managed five blocks.
Georgia Southern (16-6 Overall/7-1 SoCon)
Match Date: Saturday, Oct. 27, 6 p.m.
Kym Coley posted 14 kills, while Meredith Paskert and Nicole Jeschelnik each had 10 to lead Georgia Southern to a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-23) Southern Conference volleyball victory over Chattanooga Sunday afternoon.
The victory was the sixth in a row for the Eagles (18-6, 9-1 SoCon) and the 100th for head coach Chad Callihan in his five-year tenure at Georgia Southern.
Coley connected on her 14 kills in just 21 swings, for a .667 hitting percentage, and added three blocks. Jeschelnik recorded 16 digs, and Paskert finished with seven. Crysten Curry tallied eight kills and three blocks, and Kate Van Dyke finished with 37 assists, nine digs, six kills and three blocks.
Briana Reid led Chattanooga (10-14, 4-5 SoCon) with 13 kills to go along with seven digs, and Bridget Camacho posted 31 assists and six digs.
Davidson (8-12 Overall/4-6 SoCon)
Match Date: Sunday, Oct. 28, 3 p.m.
The Davidson volleyball team managed to take a set from the Samford Bulldogs but couldn't take the match, falling 3-1 on the road in Southern Conference action by set scores of 17-25, 22-25, 25-23 and 12-25 on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats are now 8-12 on the season with a 4-6 record in SoCon action. The Bulldogs are among the league leaders with a 16-8 record and 8-2 conference mark.
Davidson out-blocked Samford 7.0 team blocks to 3.0 team blocks, led by Tindall Sewell's four block assists. Ariel Ley and Shannon McPherson each added in three block assists apiece, with Ley recording a team-high 38 assists and nine digs.
Caroline Brown had a match-high 13 kills, followed by Megan Chamberlin's 12. However, it was Michelle McNeight who was the most accurate hitter of the day with an attacking percentage of .333. Four Wildcat players finished the day hitting .290 or better as the squad hit .207 on the day.
Leading the defense was Molly Crenshaw with 22 digs, while Brown and Jenna Ptaschinksi each totaled eight on the day. Three Wildcat players recorded service aces.
