Bulldog Spikers Host Phoenix in Season Finale

Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will honor members of the 2012 senior class on Saturday evening when the Bulldogs host SoCon foe Elon at McAlister Field House. The match is set to begin at 7:30.

The Bulldogs look to snap a three-match losing streak, after falling to Furman, Wofford and College of Charleston. On Tuesday evening, The Citadel's front row duo of Rachael Farrell and Ise d'Angelo combined for 14 kills, but it was five College of Charleston players with four or more kills that proved to be the difference as the Cougars completed a 25-14, 25-18 and 25-21 sweep of the Bulldogs at TD Bank Arena.

The tandem of Farrell and d'Angelo, had seven kills, respectively, to highlight a Citadel unit that totaled 25 team kills. The Bulldogs also collected four kills each from the front row of Bailey Kernodle and Jessica Maxwell. The Citadel's Erin Bucherl continued her solid defensive play, totaling a team-high 13 kills. She was joined by Farrell who had nine digs. Setter Rachael Keefer posted a team-best 19 assist as the Cadets fell to 6-27 overall and 0-15 in Southern Conference action.

College of Charleston's lineup was sparked by the play of Darcy Dorton (nine kills), Kerstin Koehler (seven kills) and Emily Neideffer (five kills). Those three, along with eight others who collected one kill in the match, guided CofC to 40 kills and a .205 attack percentage. On the back row, Emily Shelton (18 digs) and Taeler Davis (10 digs) provided a 55-39 edge in digs in favor of the Cougars.
