Citadel Volleyball Releases 2013 Schedule

2013 Citadel Volleyball Schedule

–Citadel volleyball head coach Amir Khaledi announced his team's 2013 schedule on Wednesday, showcasing a slate that will include 14 home matches and four in-season tournaments beginning with a visit to South Florida to open the season.

The two-day event begins when the Bulldogs square off with the host Bulls on Aug. 30 before facing Ball State and first-time opponent Austin Peay.

On Sept. 3, The Citadel will give fans a preview of the 2013 season when it hosts its the traditional Blue-White scrimmage.

The Cadets then head to their second tournament of the season on Sept. 6-7 where they are slated to meet Loyola (Ill.), Morgan State and the host Pirates at the East Carolina Tournament in Greenville, N.C.

The following weekend the Bulldogs will host a two-day tournament at McAlister Field House which includes meetings against DePaul (Sept. 13), Radford (Sept. 13), S.C. State (Sept. 14) and Charleston Southern (Sept. 14).

Their final in-season tournament will take place on Sept. 20-21 at Winthrop with the Dogs facing UNC Wilmington, Bethune-Cookman and the host Eagles.

"This is very exciting for me because for the first time we are hosting a tournament at McAlister Field House," said Khaledi. "I expect for this in-season tournament to attract lots of attention from our fans and alumni and create a very exciting weekend for Citadel volleyball."

The Citadel opens SoCon play by hosting a weekend series against UNCG (Sept. 27) and Elon (Sept. 28).

"As always our schedule is tough and challenging, but I am looking forward to having a great season," said Khaledi. "Our success this season will hinge on the ability of our returning starters to shoulder the load over the long season. Our returnees are very solid and experienced, and we expect our incoming class to complement our upperclassman."
