Bulldogs Add 26 Newcomers to the 2012-13 Cross Country and Track & Field Roster

Charleston, S.C. – Head Coach Jody Huddleston announced the addition of 16 men and 10 women to the 2012-13 cross country and track and field roster on Monday. This year's recruits cover nine states with 13 being from South Carolina and five from the Lowcountry.

MEN

"I am very excited about this year's freshman class. Again, Coach Kut has done an excellent job recruiting," said Huddleston.  "We expect several of this year's freshmen to make an immediate impact most notably in the hurdles, Jayce Almes, Darius Johnson, Nick Prestigiacomo and Jonathan Reed. 

"Graduate student Gus Vazquez-Milan and freshman Tevin Williams will likely claim spots on the 4x400.  Distance runners Drew Buehring and Miles Keohane could be top-5 runners for the Bulldogs this fall."

*Jayce Almes – Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Wando High School

  • Ran a 56.46 in the 400IH and 15.49 in the 110HH … county champion … all-region … should make an immediate impact with the hurdles and will have a shot at the 4x400.

*Neil Blake – Wilmington, N.C.  – Coastal Christian High School

  • Placed seventh at the state meet in the 800 … will work with the mid-distance squad.

*Charles Drew Buehring – North Charleston, S.C. – Fort Dorchester High School

  • Ran a 15:56 in the 5K and 4:15 in the mile … posted a time of 9:48 in the 3200 … will make an immediate impact as a cross country runner and should make a huge impact in the mile … has the talent to break our indoor and outdoor mile record.

*George Trae Carson – Lexington, S.C. – Lexington High School

  • Will compete in the 400IH and long/triple jump … will work with the hurdlers mostly but could make an impact with the jumpers as well.

*William Epps – Blythewood, S.C. – Blythewood High School

  • Ran a time of 16:57 in the 5K …. has the potential to find a spot in the top-10 in cross country and will work with the middle distance runners during the track season.

*Leo Grucella – Lancaster, N.Y. – Lancaster High School

  • Has posted a mark of 40'3" in the triple jump and 21'6.5" in the long jump … should make an immediate impact in the long jump and with technical work can turn into a solid triple jumper.

*Darius Johnson – Rock Hill, S.C. – Northwestern High School

  • Ran a time of 14.8 in the 110HH and 58.2 in the 400IH … he will add more depth to the hurdle squad and will look to help in the 4x100 and 4x400.

*Miles Keohane – Mt. Pleasant, S.C.  – Wando High School

  • Posted a time of 16:13 in the 5K … earned all-region honors … should find a spot in the top-7 as a freshman … will work with the 5K and 10K runners during track … will be a solid long distance runner.

*Nicholas Prestigiacomo – Greenfield Center, N.Y.  – Christian Brother Academy

  • Recorded a mark of 58.0 in the 400IH and 50.8 in the 400 … should find a spot on the 4x400 team and will make an immediate impact with the hurdle crew.

*Jonathan Reed – Glenolden, Pa.  – Cardinal O'Hara High School

  • Ran a time of 40.14 in the 300IH and 15.48 in the 100HH … will add depth to the hurdle crew … shouldn't have a problem with the transition from 300IH to 400IH.

*Christian Sevidal – Buford, Ga. – North Gwinnett High School

  • Posted a time of 17:20 in the 5K and 2:06 in the 800 … will compete for a spot in the top-10 for cross county and will work with the middle distance crew during the track season.

*William Sloane – Charleston, S.C. – West Ashley High School

  • Ran a time of 17:28 in the 5K and 10:41 in the 3200 … will compete for a spot in the top-10 in cross country and will work with the 5K and 10K crew during track.

*Gustavo Vazquez-Milan – Weston, Fla. – Kansas State University

  • Ran a 48.96 in the 400 and 22.14 in the 200 … will find a spot on the 4x400 and should make an impact in the 200 and 400 … will also work him into the 4x100 relay.

*Tevin Williams – Ladson, S.C. – Stratford High School

  • Posted a mark of 49.7 in the 400 and 1:59 in the 800 … should make an impact on our 4x400 and will run compete in the 400.

*Joseph Pinto – West Islip, N.Y. – West Islip High School

  • Ran a time of 2:05 in the 800 … will compete in the middle distance events and will try to break the 2:00 barrier this year.

WOMEN

"Danielle Williams and Brittany McKinney will compete in several events and should claim some freshman and perhaps a school records," said Huddleston. " Jaqueline Thompson and Madison Mayleben should be top-5 runners in cross country and Jessica Dewitte and Caillian Colquitt will add a great deal of depth for this year's squad. "

*Jennifer Burch – Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Socastee High School

  • Ran a 25:04 in the 5K in cross country … will compete for a spot in cross country and will work with the 5K crew during the track season.

*Caillian Colquitt – Simpsonville, S.C. – Southside Christian High School

  • Ran a time of 21:22 in the 5K in cross country … will compete for a spot in the top-5 in cross country and will work with the middle distance crew during track.

*Jessica Dewitte – Macomb, Mich. – Eisenhower High School

  • Posted a mark of 20:27 in the 5K … will make an immediate impact in cross country and will run with the 5k crew during track.

*Marissa Hutton - Chapin, S.C. – Chapin High School

  • Will compete in the pole vault … adds some much needed depth to the pole vault squad.

*Kristen Kessinger – Jacksonville, N.C. – White Oak High School

  • Ran a time of 22:22 in the 5K in cross country … will compete for a spot in the top-5 for cross country and will work with the 5K crew during track.

*Madison Mayleben – Ann Arbor, Mich. – Skyline High School

  • Recorded a mark of 19:42 in the 5K in cross country … should make an immediate impact in cross country the 5k group during the track season.

*Brittany McKinney – Forsyth, Ill. – Maroa-Forsyth High School

  • Ran a 12.7 in the 100 and 26.9 in the 200 … will add much needed depth in the short sprints … should find a spot on the 4x100.

*Virginia Moriah Morton – Elgin, Okla. – Fletcher High School

  • Posted a time of 23:29 in the 5K in cross country … will compete for a spot in the top-5 for cross country and will work with the 5K crew during track.

*Jaqueline Thompson – Marietta, Ga. – Harrison High School

  • Recorded a time of 19:56 in the 5K for cross country and 2:24 in the 800 … will make an immediate impact with the cross country team and will work with the middle distance crew in track.

*Danielle Williams – Woodbine, Ga. – Camden County High School

  • Posted a time of 57.11 in the 400 and 26.84 in the 200 … long jumped 17'10.25" and triple jumped 35'10.25" … will make and immediate impact in the horizontal jumps and will improve our 4x400 time … has the potential to break school records in multiple events.
