Keene Takes the Crown at the Inaugural Bulldog Cross Country Invitational
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Senior captain Kyle Keene finished in the top spot in the men's 8k race on Saturday morning at the new Laurel Hill Plantation course as the Bulldog men took first place overall while the women nabbed second.
Keene posted a time of 25:53, 35 seconds ahead of second place finisher Tyre Hines from Charleston Southern, to take the individual crown. Pacing Keene in the 8k race for the Bulldogs was Austin Waldrop (6th place, 26:57), Atom Young (7th, 27:15), Raeven Lantz (8th, 27:15) and Miles Keohane (12th, 28:16).
Danielle McKee took second place overall in the women's 5k with a time of 19:06. The junior has now led the Bulldogs in each of her 15 career races. Following McKee was freshman Jacqueline Thompson who recorded an impressive mark of 20:09 to take fifth place. Jessica DeWitte (8th, 20:49), Caillian Colquitt (10th, 20:52) and Christina Shonbeck 11th, 21:04) rounded out the top five for The Citadel.
"I'm very excited to have a new home for our course and the first meet was successful," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "We ran well but we can improve so we are looking forward to the next two meets and conference championships here."
The Bulldogs will head to Orlando, Fla., next Saturday, Oct. 6, to compete in the Disney Classic on the campus of ESPN's Wide World of Sports complex.
