Keene, McKee Lead Bulldogs at 2012 Southern Conference Championship
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. –On a rainy Saturday morning at its home course of Laurel Hill Plantation, The Citadel men took ninth place, while the women finished in 11th at the 2012 Southern Conference Championship race.
Kyle Keene led all Bulldog runners for the fourth time this season in his final collegiate cross country meet as the senior captain finished in 16th place with a time of 25:31. Pacing Keene was Austin Waldrop (26th, 25:44), Atom Young (52nd, 26:46), Raeven Lantz (27:16) and Miles Keohane (27:49).
On the women's side, Danielle McKee closed out her junior campaign by leading all Bulldogs for the 18th consecutive race. McKee posted a time of 18:42 to finish in 40th place. Senior captain Micah Wessinger finished her cross country career in 64th place with a time of 19:52. The freshmen trio of Caillian Colquitt (20:15), Jacqueline Thompson (20:15) and Jessica Dewitte (20:24) rounded out the top 5 for the women.
UNC Greensboro took the top two spots in the men's 8k, while Samford took the top two in the women's race. Paul Chelimo (23:42) won the individual crown for the second consecutive year with teammate Paul Katam (23:57) finishing in second. Samford's Lauren D'Alessio (16:57) and Rachel Roberts (17:19) finished in first and second, respectively.
Appalachian State took the team titles in both the men's (63 points) and women's (64 points) races.
