The Citadel Athletics

A former Regimental Commander for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, Bill Sansom continues to leave a lasting impression at The Citadel. During his time as a cadet, Sansom was the Summerall Guards Commander, while also being the recipient of the Star of the West and the John O. Wilson Ring.
 
Sansom is a member of The Citadel Founders' Society and served 10 years on The Citadel Foundation Board of Directors. The field at Johnson Hagood Stadium was named in his honor in 2008, and prior to the 2020 season, Sansom donated $1.5 million for the installation of a new artificial surface inside Hagood Stadium.
