CHARLESTON, S.C. - Members of The Citadel's 1990 College World Series team will play a team representing the Wounded Warriors amputee squad in a six-inning softball game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Riley Park.
That game will be followed by a three-inning contest between the Wounded Warriors and local celebrities. The 2015 Bulldogs then play the middle game of their series against UMBC at 2 p.m.
Admission for the softball event and The Citadel-UMBC game is free. Following The Citadel game, Bulldog players will be presenting the Wounded Warriors with signed jerseys.
All donations made at the game will go to the Wounded Warrior team, Limbs Without Limits, the Charleston Miracle League and Carolina Children's Charity. The game was organized by former Bulldog pitcher Channing Proctor, co-founder of the Charleston Miracle League.
The Wounded Warrior softball team raises awareness of the sacrifices made by America's military personnel and their resilience in overcoming injuries sustained during their service.
Members of the 1990 CWS team expected to play include pitchers Ken Britt, Steve Basch, Richard Shirer, Billy Baker (who also played first base and outfield), John Harrison, Kevin McGarvey and Hal Hayden. Britt was the 1990 Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Also scheduled to participate are Chris Coker, Phil Tobin, Mike Branham, Larry Hutto, Scott Elvington, Mike Black and Buck Rogers. All-America left fielder Anthony Jenkins is expected to attend and serve as a coach along with Tom Hatley, an assistant coach for the CWS team.
