CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team will travel to Winthrop on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup.

The Bulldogs come into the game with a 2-1 record after taking the opening weekend series over Virginia Tech. Winthrop is 4-0 after sweeping La Salle.

• Coach
Fred Jordan earned his 800th career win in the second game of the series with Virginia Tech.
• As a result of the 5-4 victory, Coach Jordan is the first coach in Southern Conference history to reach the 800 win milestone.
• Coach Jordan is one of 27 active Division I head coaches with 800 wins.
• The Bulldogs took the opening series for the second time in as many seasons, defeating the Hokies on Friday 4-2 and Saturday 5-4.
• This past weekend, the Bulldogs did most of their damage offensively in the last half of the game. Six of the nine runs were scored during or after the sixth inning.
• The Citadel is 12-13 in season openers and has won its last four under head coach
Fred Jordan.
• Of the players who have started all three games thus far,
Stephen Windham holds the best batting average at .364. The senior was 4-for-11 with two runs scored and a double.

Drew Ellis recorded the first home run of the season, recording two RBI with the bomb in the bottom of the sixth inning on Friday.

JP Sears tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts in the season opening win over Virginia Tech. The sophomore allowed no runs and two hits in five innings of work. He currently ranks fourth in the nation in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings.
• Sears was also named SoCon Pitcher of the Week and one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week on Feb. 22 after his dominating performance in the series opener.
• Through the first two games of the season, the Bulldogs pitching staff fanned 30 of the 79 batters they faced.

Thomas Byelick pitched a career-high six innings on Saturday, scattering six hits and striking out seven. The sophomore allowed just one earned run to cross the plate.
• The Bulldogs used a team-record 10 pitchers in the third game of the series against Virginia Tech, nine of which were making their collegiate debut.
• In the first weekend, The Citadel staff tallied a conference-best 41 strikeouts. 24 of those strikeouts can be credited to Sears (12), Byelick (7) and
Zach Lavery (5).
• Lavery earned his first career save in the opening game of the series in two innings of relief. The senior earned his second career save by striking out four batters in the second game of the series including the four and five batters for the Hokies with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.
• The Bulldogs are now 11-7 in home openers under Coach Jordan.
• The Citadel plays 11 of its first 13 games at Riley Park with the only two away games coming against in-state foes Winthrop and College of Charleston. The Bulldogs have six home games in February and 11 in March.
• Beginning in 2007, The Citadel has opened the past nine seasons in Joe Riley Park.
• Of the Bulldogs 56 games this season, 22 will be against opponents from the state of South Carolina.
• Dating back to 1965, this will be just the seventh time The Citadel has hosted South Carolina and Clemson in the same year.
• This will be the first appearance for Clemson in the Lowcountry since 1990. It will also be the first time since 2004 that the Bulldogs and Tigers have faced each other.
• The Citadel is tied with Western Carolina for a league-leading 13 regular-season championships. Furman is the next closest member with four titles.
• In 28 appearances in the Southern Conference tournament, The Citadel holds a 72-37 record.
• With the addition of Sears's weekly award, The Citadel now has a conference-high 99 weekly honors. Sears' recognition is the 63rd time a Bulldog has been named SoCon Pitcher of the Week.
