CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel rifle team came up just short against Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center.
"We had a few minor problems today" head coach William Smith said. "I didn't do a great job, but the team shot well even if a couple were a little below their practice average."
The Eagles claimed the top team finish with 4,491 points. The Citadel co-ed team scored only 12 fewer points and posted a score of 4,479. The Citadel women's team took third with 4,200 points and UAB, which only competed as a team in air rifle, finished fourth with 2,261.
Sophomore Allison Auten led the Bulldogs with season-best scores in both disciplines. The Abbeville, South Carolina, native tied for the best smallbore score of the day of 562 and placed fourth overall in air rifle after scoring 574 points. Freshman Alexander McAlear placed sixth in smallbore with 550 points, and junior Morgan Long's 572 points placed sixth in air rifle.
Senior Richie Parra registered a season-high 568 points and placed eighth in air rifle. Juniors Matthew Davenport and Colton Poole each claimed a seventh-place finish with Davenport taking seventh in air rifle and Poole finishing seventh in smallbore.
Sophomore Brandi Duzz led the women's team with a ninth-place after scoring a season-best 533 points. Classmate Leah Wallace's 551 points in air rifle placed 17th overall and was followed closely by Duzz with 547 points.
