
Bulldogs Break Records in First Meet of the Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first meet of the 2018 indoor season at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

For the women's team, sophomore Kaeleigh Guth broke The Citadel's record in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 8.25 inches to finish sixth overall. Guth also moved to the fourth spot on The Citadel's all-time triple jump list with a leap of 34-10.5. Freshman Samantha Engel earned second in program history in the pole vault with a leap of 10-4, and sophomore Jessy Page finished fifth overall in the weight throw with a toss of 49-8.5

Freshmen Amber Opp and Joie Royer etched their names in The Citadel's record books in the 3,000 meters and 400 meters. Opp ran the ninth-fastest time in the 3K in 11 minutes, 11.65 seconds, and Royer earned the tenth fastest time in program history in the 400 in 63.08.

For the men's team, junior Josiah Johnson earned a second-place finish on the day in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88. Johnson also took third place in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 22.70. Senior Devin Singleton ran the 3rd fastest time in school history in the 400 with a time of 49.92 to earn 2nd overall. Sophomore Ja'Lon Williams was 3rd in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 50-4.25 to tie No.10 on the all-time list.
