SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Citadel track and field teams competed in the Savannah State Invitational in Savannah, Georgia, to begin their outdoor season on this past weekend.

"This was a smaller opening meet for us since it is spring break for the cadet-athletes," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "It gave some of our cadet-athletes the ability to compete and seize some opportunities while a lot of the team was gone. We are looking forward to traveling to South Carolina in a couple weeks."

For the women's team, junior Kameron Cass placed in the top 10 in three separate events. Cass took third place in the javelin with a throw of 104-5 meters, sixth place in the shotput with a mark of 34–10m and seventh in the discus with 122-6m. Anna Barfield took seventh place in the javelin with a mark of 88-0m.

For the men's team, junior Charlie Hatler led the field in the javelin with a toss of 169-5m. Hatler out-threw the field by nearly nine meters. Amos Jackson finished fourth in javelin and also placed third in the hammer with a throw of 144-4m.

Luke Vettel was third in the pole vault with a leap of 12-6m. Prince Howard-Whitaker was third in the discus with a toss of 148-7, finished 7th in the hammer with 132-10 and finished seventh in the shot with 40-7.75. Jacquary Bradford took third place in the long jump with 20-7.25m.

The Bulldogs will have a week off before traveling to the Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday, March 23.
