TAMPA, Fla. - One of the best running duos in Citadel history, Malik Diggs and Josiah Johnson, closed out the 2017-18 track & field season this weekend at the NCAA East Preliminaries at South Florida's Track and Field Stadium.
"Both Malik and Josiah had amazing years after each breaking individual, school and conference records," said head coach Jody Huddleston. "We are thrilled they were able to experience the NCAAs, and as a coach, I could not be more proud of their accomplishments."
In his final event as a Bulldog, Diggs placed 42nd after running a 14.41 in the 100-meter hurdles, while Johnson placed 31st with a time of 10.41 in the 100-meter dash.
Diggs closes out a Citadel career that includes five Southern Conference Outdoor Championships and two Most Outstanding Track Performer accolades (2017, 2018). He defended his most recent SoCon championship title in the 110-meter hurdles in record-breaking fashion, ousting a both meet and school record in the process with a time of 14.09 seconds. Diggs also took first place in the 400m hurdles and 4x100 team relay.
As for Johnson, who has one year of eligibility remaining at The Citadel, he will turn his attention to defending the 2018 SoCon Outdoor Championship 100-meter dash title next season. Johnson, who set the mark for the SoCon and school (10.30) at this year's event, also placed second in the 200-meter dash and first in the 4x100 team relay.
